1. General information

The following provides the user with general information about what cookies are and what types of cookies exist.

What are cookies?

Cookies and other similar technologies, such as pixels, web beacons, etc. are text or image files that are installed in the user’s browser when they access an online service.

What types of cookies are there?

According to the entity that manages the cookies:

According to retention period:

• Session cookies: these collect and store data when the user accesses a service and cease once the user leaves.
• Persistent cookies: these have a specific retention period which is determined by the service provider. The retention period may vary from a few minutes to several years. They are used to save and retrieve certain parameters each time the user visits a service.

According to their purpose:

• Strictly necessary cookies:these are essential and strictly necessary for the website to function correctly and for users to be able to use the various options or services offered by the service providers. For example, those used for session maintenance, response time management, performance or option validation, and the use of security elements, etc.
• Preference cookies:these allow the user to specify or personalise certain characteristics of a service. For example, setting the language, regional configuration, or browser type.
• Analytics cookies:these enable the counting of unique visitors and the analysis of how a service is used, in order to measure interest in the service or in specific areas of it.  For example, an analytics cookie might track the geographical areas from which the largest percentages of users connect, or which product or service is most widely used, etc.
• Advertising cookies: these enable the management of advertising spaces within a service.
• Behavioural advertising cookies: these enable the management of advertising spaces within a service. They store information on the behaviour of the users of a service, in order to subsequently display personalised advertising.

Other technologies:

• Pixels, web beacons or trackers: also known as tracking pixels, pixel tags, conversion pixels or web bugs. These are tiny transparent 1×1 pixel images that are inserted into a service in order to measure activity. Once a specific page from a service is loaded in a browser, the image will load and this data point can be measured. Tracking pixels generally make it possible to identify the path a particular user IP address has taken across an online service.
• HTML5 storage: this consists of making use of the capabilities of HTML5 technology to store certain parameters in the user’s browser that may be used to identify that browser.
• Local shared objects (LSO): also known as “flash cookies”, this consists of storing information without cookies on the user’s device, making use of Adobe Flash Player technology.
• ETags: this is an HTTP protocol mechanism that enables validation of the cache that the user stores in their browser for a website. This technology is primarily used to save bandwidth, avoiding duplicate content downloads. However, it can also be used to identify the user’s browser.
• Canvas fingerprinting: this involves generating a unique pattern in the user’s browser using the HTML5 web standard technology to identify the user’s device.
• Font fingerprinting: this technique consists of identifying the font configuration of the user’s device to obtain a unique device identifier.
• Browser cache: as the name suggests, this technique consists of storing information in the browser cache.
• WebGL: this technique allows use of the three-dimensional rendering capabilities of modern browsers to obtain a unique device identifier, owing to the different configurations of each device.

What technologies do we use?

• Specifically, this online service uses cookies and other similar technologies for the following purposes:
