His practice focuses on commercial and investment arbitration, both international and domestic, spanning disputes in infrastructure, construction, mining, energy and telecommunications, as well as corporate matters, among others. He has participated in arbitrations under the rules of the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID), the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), and various national arbitration centers. He also advises clients in court litigation, including civil and commercial disputes. Alberto holds a law degree from Universidad de Lima and is currently an LL.M. candidate in International Business Regulation, Litigation and Arbitration at New York University. He has additionally served as a teaching assistant for the Oral Litigation course at Universidad de Lima and as assistant to the co-chairs of the Latin American Working Group of the International Bar Association.

Experience

His experience includes representing and advising clients in international and local commercial and investment arbitrations. Throughout his career at Miranda & Amado, he has participated in over 35 arbitrations, with hands-on experience drafting submissions and procedural documents, designing legal strategies, preparing hearings, and delivering portions of opening and closing statements. He has served as second chair in several of these proceedings.

Notable matters include:

• Represented a telecommunications company, a subsidiary of Quanta Services Inc., in two ICC arbitrations against the Republic of Peru arising from the termination of a major infrastructure project. Secured a favorable award for approximately USD 180 million, the highest monetary award ever imposed on the Peruvian government.
• Represented APM Terminals Callao S.A. in the ICSID arbitration filed against the Republic of Peru for alleged breaches of the Concession Agreement for the North Terminal of the Port of Callao. Participated as part of the core defense team at the hearings held in Washington, D.C. Contributed to securing a favorable award, currently subject to annulment proceedings.
• Represented one of the country’s leading electricity transmission companies (part of an international conglomerate) in an ICC arbitration against the Republic of Peru seated in Washington, D.C. Served as second chair and conducted part of the opening statements. A favorable award on the merits was rendered in mid-2025; the award on damages is pending.
• Represented one of the country’s leading power generation companies in an arbitration brought by a major Peruvian mining corporation. Secured a favorable award ordering the recognition of energy consumption exceeding USD 140 million.
• Represented two major electricity generation companies in an arbitration against one of the country’s principal energy distributors, involving a claim of excessive onerousness of performance. Secured a favorable award ordering an increase of over USD 35 million in contractual payments.
