The firm expects to achieve ISO 37001 certification in Portugal, Mexico and Colombia by the end of the year

Pérez-Llorca has become the first law firm in Spain to obtain both ISO 37001 certification – the international standard for anti-bribery management systems – and UNE 19601 certification – the benchmark standard for criminal compliance management systems. Both have been awarded by Bureau Veritas, one of the world’s leading certification bodies.

This dual recognition strengthens the firm’s corporate governance model and establishes it as a benchmark for corporate integrity and risk management, a factor that is becoming increasingly crucial for companies operating in highly regulated environments with significant reputational exposure.

A comprehensive framework for ethical and criminal compliance

ISO 37001 endorses the implementation of an anti-bribery management system in accordance with the international standard, which provides a structured framework for preventing, detecting and managing bribery risks, thereby strengthening a culture of integrity and transparency across all the firm’s activities.

Meanwhile, UNE 19601 certifies the existence of a criminal compliance system aligned with international best practices, capable of mitigating criminal risks and reinforcing a culture of compliance in an increasingly regulated environment subject to scrutiny by stakeholders.

The combined adoption of both standards enables the firm to integrate its compliance governance systems in a coherent manner, respond proactively to the risks of bribery and corporate crime, and meet the highest ethical and regulatory standards in the market, thereby strengthening the confidence of clients, employees and other stakeholders in its management and governance model.

“Achieving ISO 37001 and UNE 19601 certification is a milestone that reflects Pérez-Llorca’s ongoing commitment to integrity, professional excellence and transparency in all our processes. This recognition places us at the forefront of the legal sector in Spain and enables us to offer our clients the utmost assurance of ethical and legal compliance,” said Julio Lujambio, executive partner at Pérez-Llorca.

“Our commitment to a robust model of criminal and anti-bribery management is driven not only by a regulatory obligation, but also by a distinctive value that provides legal and reputational certainty for both our clients and our own organisation,” said José Luis Luna, Chief Legal Officer at Pérez-Llorca.

From a compliance perspective, María Cano, the firm’s Compliance Officer, emphasised that “this milestone builds on a corporate strategy focused on strengthening internal control structures and raising the firm’s ethical standards.”

The firm expects to obtain ISO 37001 certification by the end of the year in Portugal, Mexico and Colombia, the remaining jurisdictions in which it practises local law, thereby standardising its anti-bribery policy across all the countries in which it operates, and thus becoming the first firm in these countries to achieve this accreditation.

With this dual certification, Pérez-Llorca reaffirms its leadership as one of the most advanced law firms in the areas of corporate governance, risk mitigation and regulatory compliance, key factors for clients operating in highly regulated sectors who require legal partners with the highest standards of rigour, transparency and professional integrity.

26% of Pérez-Llorca’s total pro forma turnover (€55.5 million) came from the firm’s operations in Portugal, Mexico and Colombia

The firm has increased its sales sixfold over the last decade

Pérez-Llorca increased its pro forma global revenue by 28% in 2025, ending the financial year with a turnover of €211.3 million (approximately $250 million), a figure that consolidates the double-digit growth trajectory the firm has maintained over the last five years. This pro forma revenue includes sales for the full year 2025 in Spain, Portugal and Mexico, as well as in Colombia, a new market for the firm.

The firm’s turnover in Spain rose to €155.8 million, representing an increase of approximately 17% compared with 2024. The firm’s Portuguese, Mexican and Colombian law practice areas recorded pro forma sales of €55.5 million, accounting for 26% of the firm’s total revenue.

The increase in turnover reflects both the solid performance of the Spanish market and the strong growth of the international business, which continues to account for an increasing share of the firm’s overall turnover.

These figures, pending final audit approval, once again show Pérez-Llorca achieving record sales levels and consolidate its track record of sustained growth. Over the past decade (2016–2025), Pérez-Llorca has increased its sales sixfold.

“The growth achieved in 2025 is the result of having a very clear roadmap across the four markets in which we operate: advising our clients on highly complex transactions, significant disputes and regulatory matters, upholding consistent standards of excellence and maintaining a clear focus on attracting and developing the best talent. Our ambition is, and will continue to be, to grow in all the jurisdictions we are present in,” said Pedro Pérez-Llorca, the firm’s Senior Partner.

International strategy

To drive and capitalise on its global growth, Pérez-Llorca launched Scala in 2025, an initiative designed to harness the opportunities of its internationalisation and solidify its standing as a leading Ibero-American legal services firm.

Scala is not only the driving force behind selective expansion into key markets and the comprehensive, coordinated support of major clients with a presence across multiple jurisdictions, but also helps channel the international opportunities available to Pérez-Llorca’s talent.

As part of this initiative, Pedro Pérez-Llorca, the firm’s Senior Partner, has temporarily relocated to Mexico City for a year with the aim of providing on-the-ground support for a growing project and working alongside the Americas team: Iván Delgado, International Executive Partner; Jorge Mondragón, Country Chair for Mexico; and Mauricio Piñeros, Country Chair for Colombia.

Julio Lujambio, Executive Partner, is implementing the strategy and leads the Iberian market from Spain, while Constanza Vergara, Partner and COO of Pérez-Llorca, coordinates the firm’s day-to-day operations.

Project Scala also involves a reorganisation of the group of companies to enable it to capitalise on all emerging opportunities by ensuring the most appropriate structure is in place.

As part of this international expansion, the firm has recently announced the forthcoming opening of an office in Abu Dhabi, making it the first Latin American firm to establish a physical presence in the city. This new office will be headed by Gonçalo Capela Godinho, who will hand over the reins of the Portugal office to Carlos Vaz de Almeida, who serves as Managing Partner, as well as to Inês Arruda and Adolfo Mesquita Nunes, who are Country Co-chairs.

This agreement strengthens the firm’s commitment to the arts and to creating value in the communities where it operates

Pérez-Llorca has signed a patronage agreement with the Calouste Gulbenkian Museum in Lisbon, consolidating its commitment to promoting culture in Portugal. The agreement is in line with the firm’s mission to engage in cultural excellence projects in the markets where it is present.

The Calouste Gulbenkian Museum holds a unique collection of six thousand pieces, from Antiquity to the beginning of the 20th century. The collection spans civilisations from the Middle East and Asia–Pacific to European art, with masterpieces by artists such as Rembrandt, Rubens, Monet and Degas, and features a prominent collection of works by René Lalique. Opened in 1969, the Museum fulfilled its founder’s desire to bring his collection together under one roof, and today it is an international benchmark for the preservation and dissemination of artistic heritage.

The Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation is pleased to welcome the firm to its group of patrons, noting that “Pérez-Llorca is a leading institution in the legal world, renowned for its work in the promotion of the arts”.

The Calouste Gulbenkian Museum is currently closed for modernisation works, which include upgrading the infrastructure, harmonising the exhibition galleries and optimising visitor flows, in order to offer improved conservation conditions and a renewed and more accessible museum experience.

Within the framework of this agreement, Pérez-Llorca and the Calouste Gulbenkian Museum will develop exclusive initiatives for the firm’s professionals, clients and collaborators, such as guided and narrated tours, topical round tables and small cultural gatherings.

“We are very pleased with this partnership, which reflects our vision that top-tier legal practice and art share the same values: rigour, interpretation and legacy building. Supporting the Gulbenkian at this time of renewal means investing in Lisbon’s intellectual and cultural capital,” affirmed Constanza Vergara, partner and Chief Operating Officer of Pérez-Llorca.

“This partnership with the Calouste Gulbenkian Museum symbolises the consolidation of our commitment to Portugal. For Pérez-Llorca, being completely present in a market means actively contributing in various areas, particularly to the country’s cultural capital. By supporting an institution that is a global benchmark and a pillar of Lisbon’s identity, we are reaffirming our commitment to being a strategic partner in the development and promotion of the arts ecosystem, both nationally and internationally,” declared Carlos Vaz de Almeida, Managing Partner of Pérez-Llorca’s Lisbon office.

The protocol signing ceremony took place at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and was attended by António M. Feijó, President of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation; Jorge Vasconcelos, Administrator of the Foundation, and Susana Prudêncio, Deputy Director of Marketing and Information Systems. Representing Pérez-Llorca were Constanza Vergara, Chief Operating Officer; Carlos Vaz de Almeida, Managing Partner of the Lisbon office; as well as Inés Arruda and Adolfo Mesquita Nunes, Country Co-chairs of the firm in Portugal.

This patronage is in addition to other cultural initiatives promoted by Pérez-Llorca, such as the support in Spain for the Museo Nacional del Prado, the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona and the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía, strengthening the firm’s position as a strategic partner in the arts ecosystem.

The session was moderated by Luis Enrique Fernández Pallarés, partner in Pérez-Llorca’s Employment, Compensation and Benefits practice area, and María José López Álvarez, lecturer in Labour Law and Social Security at Comillas ICADE. Guest speakers were Rosa Santos Fernández, director of the Spanish Confederation of Business Organisations (CEOE)’s Employment, Diversity and Social Protection Department, and Javier Pacheco Serradilla, the Workers’ Commissions (CCOO)’s secretary of Trade Union Action and Strategic Transitions.

During the opening of the event, Luis Enrique Fernández Pallarés highlighted the significance of absenteeism linked to temporary incapacity, underlining that “it has become one of the main structural challenges of the Spanish labour market, both because of its quantitative dimension and its impact on the organisation of work and the sustainability of the system.” In this regard, he emphasised the need to approach the debate in a technical and rigorous manner, enabling the causes of the increase in temporary incapacity proceedings to be accurately identified and balanced solutions to be found.

María José López Álvarez went on to give an overview of the current state of temporary incapacity, providing data to contextualise the magnitude of the phenomenon, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic. For López Álvarez, “the analysis of absenteeism requires a proper differentiation between situations of legitimate health protection and possible dysfunctions in the management of the system”, putting forward as a first issue the causes that have led to the increase in temporary incapacity processes in recent years.

Similarly, Javier Pacheco pointed to a number of concurrent factors, including the employment cycle itself, the general deterioration of health observed in the population, the transformation of employment relationships derived from the arrival of new technologies and the National Health System’s lack of resources. “The phenomenon cannot be explained from a single cause, but rather as the result of structural changes in employment, health and work organisation,” said Pacheco.

Rosa Santos then spoke, and after noting that “Spain is a world leader in temporary incapacity due to common contingencies”, she pointed out that “the shortage of health professionals, the lack of coordination between administrations and the weakness of control mechanisms are the main causes to which, as an accelerator, the complements of the agreements to the benefits may be contributing.” According to her, “we are facing a phenomenon that compromises the health of working people and is having a direct impact on the productivity and competitiveness of companies while increasing the financial pressure on the National Institute of Social Security.” Rosa Santos put the Temporary Incapacity due to Common Contingencies bill, which is paid equally by the INSS and Spanish companies, at €33 billion.

In the final part of the debate, the moderators invited the speakers to make concrete proposals aimed at mitigating the current situation, insisting that “the scale of the problem calls for solutions that combine more efficient management of processes with full respect for the rights of workers.” Among the measures proposed, Pacheco highlighted the need to develop the 5th Agreement for Employment and Collective Bargaining, promoting the role of mutual insurance companies in traumatological processes, strengthening coordination between the workplace and health surveillance, and greater investment in health resources and prevention. For his part, Santos agreed on the need to strengthen the health system’s resources and coordination, and proposed, among other things, bringing forward the monitoring of sick leave from the start of the process, particularly in cases of repeated sick leave due to various pathologies, with the collaboration of the mutual insurance companies if deemed necessary.

The event was led by Daniel Cifuentes and Yolanda Valdeolivas, partner and Of Counsel of this practice area, respectively, who offered a comprehensive overview of the most significant rulings handed down by the main national and international courts over the past few months.

Daniel Cifuentes opened the seminar by highlighting absenteeism as one of the main challenges facing companies today, due to its high rates. The Pérez-Llorca partner noted that “absenteeism has become one of the biggest concerns for companies, not only because of its economic impact, but also because of its organisational and people management implications.” He also announced that the government will set up the Temporary Incapacity Observatory, as a measure aimed at analysing and alleviating this problem.

On the subject of collective bargaining, Cifuentes analysed the recent proposals from CCOO and UGT, the main Spanish trade unions, on the 6th Agreement for Employment and Collective Bargaining, while Yolanda Valdeolivas went on to discuss their main novelties and possible practical impact. At this point, the speakers preliminarily introduced the issue of gender pay equity, which was expanded upon later on in the session.

The event also addressed new trends in whistleblower protection, highlighting the creation of a specific channel on the Independent Authority’s website for receiving disclosures and the challenges that its implementation will pose for companies.

With regard to the outlook for the labour market, the speakers made reference to both the International Labour Organisation’s annual report on artificial intelligence and the survey published by the Spanish Chamber of Commerce, highlighting the technological and organisational transformation that companies are undergoing. In this context, Valdeolivas noted that “the increase in contributions approved for 2026 and the strengthening of certain administrative obligations create a more demanding scenario for companies.”

In the event’s second section, dedicated to the case law chronicle, the speakers carried out an exhaustive review of the most significant decisions handed down by the Constitutional Court, the Court of Justice of the European Union, the Spanish Supreme Court and the Spanish High Court during the months of October, November, December and January. They analysed rulings made on a number of matters, including employer contributions to the Public Treasury, temporary disability supplements, work-life balance, changing collective agreements, substantial modifications to working conditions, parental leave under Article 48 bis of the Workers’ Statute, freedom of association, privacy of salary data and various issues related to working time.

Then, following the usual ‘Pérez-Llorca Labour Law Update’ session format, Cifuentes and Valdeolivas presented the top three most significant judgments from recent months. This time, first place went to judgments on absenteeism and its impact on salary, highlighting the Supreme Court rulings of 14 and 16 January 2026, which consider it discriminatory to exclude periods of Temporary Incapacity from the accrual of attendance bonuses or variable remuneration, as opposed to rulings from the Spanish High Court, such as the one handed down on 6 October 2025, which endorse the proportional apportionment of incentives when the absence is not unduly penalised.

In the final part of the session, the speakers addressed the key aspects of Directive 2023/970, which strengthens pay transparency obligations. As Valdeolivas explained, this regulation does not replace the existing regime in Spain, but rather adds new obligations aimed at strengthening the culture of transparency. In this respect, the firm’s Of Counsel noted that “the Directive introduces a paradigm shift by extending the right to information, which no longer focuses exclusively on the legal representation of workers but also extends to individual workers.” She also warned that, given the specificity of its mandates, certain provisions could be susceptible to direct application if not correctly transposed by 7 June 2026.

Pérez-Llorca’s Employment, Compensation and Benefits area held the first ‘Pérez-Llorca Labour Law Update’ session of 2026 in Barcelona, with the participation of Manel Hernàndez, Yolanda Valdeolivas and Marc París, partner, Of Counsel and associate, respectively, of this practice area.

Manel Hernàndez began the seminar by setting out the latest and most significant judicial rulings, the impact of the new Sustainable Mobility Law on the workplace and a review of the most recent case law from the Spanish Supreme Court and the Spanish High Court. In this regard, Hernàndez stressed that “companies are facing a particularly intense start to the year from a regulatory point of view, with major changes that require advance planning and a strategic approach”.

Yolanda Valdeolivas then addressed the main regulatory developments from the beginning of the year. In this context, he highlighted the repeal of Royal Decree-law 16/2025, with the consequent absence of automatic updates to matters such as the minimum interprofessional wage (SMI) and contribution bases. However, he pointed out that the government has announced an agreement with business and trade union representatives to increase the minimum wage by 3.1%, to €1,221, an increase that is expected to be approved soon by Royal Decree.

Valdeolivas also detailed the changes announced regarding Social Security, including the increase in the maximum contribution base to €5,101.20, the increase in the Intergenerational Equity Mechanism to 0.90%, as well as the progressive application of the Additional Solidarity Contribution on salaries that exceed this maximum base. “We are facing a scenario of sustained increases in labour costs that are forcing companies to review their remuneration and contribution policies,” said Pérez-Llorca’s Of Counsel.

One of the central points of her speech was the analysis of the Pay Transparency Directive, which must be transposed by 7 June 2026. As Valdeolivas explained, this regulation will strengthen the principle of equal pay for work of equal value and will impose new obligations on companies in terms of pay transparency, both at the pre-employment stage and internally and in terms of workers’ right to information. In this respect, she stressed that “the focus is not so much on the existence of wage differentials, but on whether they can be justified on objective and non-discriminatory grounds”.

Manel Hernàndez went on to discuss the implications of the Sustainable Mobility Law, promoted by the Ministry of Transport, for the workplace. According to him, the regulation introduces the obligation for certain companies to have a Sustainable Mobility Plan, which must be operational as of 5 December 2027 and be negotiated with the workers’ legal representatives. In Hernàndez’s words, “mobility is no longer a purely logistical issue but a business responsibility with a direct impact on work organisation.”.

These plans, which will affect companies with workplaces with more than 200 employees, or 100 employees per shift, must include measures to promote more efficient and sustainable mobility, including active mobility, public transport, shared mobility or the use of vehicles with a lower environmental impact, as well as the possibility of implementing working from home as a tool to reduce travel.

Lastly, following the usual ‘Pérez-Llorca Labour Law Update’ session format, the top three most significant judgments from recent months were presented. This time, first place went to the judgment of the Spanish Supreme Court handed down on 22 December 2025, which establishes that, in dismissals due to supervening incompetence, it is up to the company to prove that it has tried to adapt the job or relocate the worker, or that such adjustments represent an excessive burden. In this context, París pointed out that “the Supreme Court requires companies to make a particularly rigorous evidentiary effort before resorting to contract termination”.

The session concluded with a question and answer session, in which attendees were particularly interested in the practical impact of the Wage Transparency Directive and the challenges that its transposition will pose for organisations in the coming months.

The new partner will join Pérez-Llorca’s Madrid headquarters, where he will work in coordination with the rest of the firm’s offices

Pérez-Llorca today announced the appointment of Adal Salamanca as a new Tax partner in its Madrid offices to strengthen this practice, specifically the area of tax litigation.

Salamanca has a solid track record in providing tax advice to companies, with a special focus on tax litigation and defending taxpayers during tax audit, inspection and sanction procedures, as well as during the different appeals procedures provided for in both domestic and EU legislation. Throughout his career, he has advised on highly complex matters, in coordination with multidisciplinary teams and with a comprehensive client-oriented approach. In this field, he has led tax proceedings throughout all their phases and appeals, both before administrative and contentious-administrative courts and before Community bodies and agencies. He also has extensive experience advising European and third country investment and pension funds on recovering taxes in Spain related to their investments.

Salamanca joins Pérez-Llorca’s Tax team and will work in coordination with the rest of the firm’s offices. His arrival at the firm further strengthens this practice area, following the internal promotion announced last December of 12 partners and five counsels, including Antonio Ruiz and Yi Zhou, who were appointed as new Tax partners.

A graduate in Law from the Universidad de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Adal Salamanca holds a Master’s Degree in Taxation and Tax Advice from the Centro de Estudios Financieros and various programmes and diplomas from business schools such as IESE and IE. In addition, Salamanca lectures at various universities, teaching on courses related to tax proceedings and offences against the tax authorities.

In the words of Clara Jiménez, partner and head of Pérez-Llorca’s Tax practice area: “Adal’s arrival at the firm is part of our strategy to grow and strengthen our Tax practice area and, in particular, the tax litigation area, one in which we already have a well-established position. Adal is joining us to develop the area of litigation involving funds and, in general, foreign entities with a presence in Spain. We consider Adal’s clear specialisation in this area to be highly appropriate for this task. In the current context where some international tax paradigms are being reviewed or even questioned, we believe it is essential to have a team dedicated exclusively to the litigation aspect of this practice.”

As Julio Lujambio, executive partner of Pérez-Llorca, explains, “the Tax practice is one of the firm’s strategic practices and plays a key role in the comprehensive advice we offer our clients. In an environment of increasing regulatory complexity, a strong and highly specialised team is essential. Adal’s appointment strengthens this commitment and confirms the significance of the Tax department within our firm.”

The new office will be headed by Gonçalo Capela Godinho, current Country Chair of Pérez-Llorca in Lisbon

The Lisbon office will be headed by Carlos Vaz de Almeida, who will become the office’s Managing Partner. Inês Arruda and Adolfo Mesquita Nunes will become Country Co-chairs

Pérez-Llorca today announced its intention to open an office in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, in 2026, in the Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM), one of the main international financial centres in the region.

The decision is part of the firm’s international strategy and responds to structural developments in global capital flows. Gulf-based institutional and private investors have been taking an increasingly significant role in financing and acquiring assets in jurisdictions such as the Iberian Peninsula, Latin America and Portuguese-speaking African countries.

This new Pérez-Llorca office in Abu Dhabi will be headed by Gonçalo Capela Godinho, current Country Chair of the Lisbon office. With a strong international profile and extensive experience in advising clients on complex, cross-border transactions, Capela Godinho will lead the office’s establishment and drive the development of institutional and commercial relationships in the region. Initially, two Pérez-Llorca associates will make the move alongside Gonçalo Capela Godinho.

With Capela Godinho’s departure to Abu Dhabi, the Lisbon office will be headed by Carlos Vaz de Almeida, who will be Managing Partner, while Inês Arruda and Adolfo Mesquita Nunes will be Country Co-chairs.

Abu Dhabi: a strategic international investment hub

The future Pérez-Llorca office in Abu Dhabi will serve as a platform for relationship, origination and execution, aimed at supporting Gulf investors in overseas investment projects, working closely with Pérez-Llorca’s teams in Spain, Portugal, Mexico and Colombia, as well as with the Lusophone Africa practice coordinated from Lisbon.

The firm’s presence in Abu Dhabi is not intended to develop local legal practice in the Middle East. On the contrary, it aims to strengthen the firm’s proximity to international capital sources that invest in markets where Pérez-Llorca has effective capacity to enforce local law, ensuring an integrated, rigorous approach with a high degree of control over legal enforcement.

According to Gonçalo Capela Godinho, the Pérez-Llorca partner who will lead the project, “by opening an office in Abu Dhabi, we can be closer to investors who have been playing an increasingly important role in transactions in the Iberian Peninsula, Latin America and Portuguese-speaking Africa. This is consistent with our strategy of orderly growth and our focus on advising on complex cross-border transactions, combining client proximity with direct legal enforcement in the relevant jurisdictions.”

The Abu Dhabi office will work in an integrated manner with the rest of Pérez-Llorca’s international offices, including London, New York, Brussels and Singapore, strengthening the firm’s position as a leading legal partner in international investments that require local depth, international coordination and close client relationship management.

Portugal: strengthening the Iberian project and international momentum

In parallel, Pérez-Llorca is reaffirming its commitment to Portugal, where the firm has experienced significant growth above expectations in just two years. The Lisbon office has undergone a very significant expansion, both in financial terms and in terms of the number of professionals, and now has a solid presence in the Portuguese legal market.

The office currently employs more than 60 people, with 14 partners leading multidisciplinary teams covering all areas of business law, as well as key sectors.

In keeping with the ambition for growth that characterises Pérez-Llorca and its international vocation, the office is now entering a new phase of consolidation. This stage involves a governance structure tailored to the size already achieved and the demands of a project with a strong Iberian and international focus, similar to what Pérez-Llorca has done in other jurisdictions.

In this context, a new structure has been created in Lisbon, based on a Managing Partner, with executive functions, and two Country Co-chairs. Carlos Vaz de Almeida will assume the role of the firm’s Managing Partner, while Inês Arruda and Adolfo Mesquita Nunes will act as Country Co-chairs.

“We are extremely grateful to Gonçalo for his work over the years in Lisbon, who is handing over the management of this office to three outstanding professionals. We believe that this new structure reinforces the firm’s commitment to Portugal as a long-term strategic project and reflects our desire to continue promoting sustainable growth, supported by consolidated teams and solid technical excellence,” said Pedro Pérez-Llorca, senior partner at Pérez-Llorca.

“With great ambition and vision, Gonçalo Capela Godinho, alongside the management team in Spain, was able to quickly build a unique team of carefully selected professionals, enabling the Portuguese arm of the firm to reach the level of maturity and implementation it enjoys today. The firm can only be grateful to him, especially at a time when he is taking on an equally important challenge in the context of Pérez-Llorca’s internationalisation strategy. I am grateful to the management team for the trust they have placed in me and I approach this appointment with the same responsibility and enthusiasm, at a particularly important time for the project and for the firm’s ambitions and high standards,” stated Carlos Vaz de Almeida, Managing Partner of Pérez-Llorca’s Lisbon office.

International strategy: sustained growth and presence in global decision-making centres

The intention to open an office in Abu Dhabi is part of Pérez-Llorca’s international expansion plan, aimed at strengthening its presence in strategic centres and consolidating its capacity to support clients and investors in global transactions.

This initiative responds to the need to provide full coverage for the firm in a region with growing influence on global investment flows and a central role in international financial decision-making.

Pérez-Llorca’s international trajectory began in 2015 with the opening of offices in London and New York, continued with Brussels and was consolidated with Singapore, thus covering the financial capitals of the three major regions of global economic development and the European regulatory capital. This strategy culminated in 2024, when Pérez-Llorca entered the Mexican legal market, and in 2025, when it entered the Colombian market, thus becoming a leading Ibero-American law firm.

“We are very proud of everything we are building internationally. We are advancing faster than we expected in our strategy, and that drives us to continue growing our international presence so that we can continue to support our clients in their transactions, litigation and regulatory matters, while also helping our talent to develop in an international environment,” said Iván Delgado, Pérez-Llorca’s international executive partner.

Felipe Suescún de Roa has joined Pérez-Llorca as a new partner in Colombia to strengthen the firm’s Litigation and Dispute Resolution practice, one of its key areas in this country.

Suescún de Roa has more than 20 years of professional experience, with a solid background in national and international arbitrations, dispute resolution and business law. Throughout his career he has been involved in complex arbitrations in different jurisdictions, seats and under applicable laws, including Argentina, Colombia, France, Mexico, New York, Switzerland and the UNIDROIT Principles, mainly under the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and Bogotá Chamber of Commerce (CCB) Rules.

Suescún de Roa is widely recognised in Colombia and Latin America as a leader in his practice area by various rankings, guides, directories and independent publications, including Legal 500, Chambers and Partners, Latin Lawyer and Lexology, among others.

A graduate in Law and a specialist in Commercial Law from the Universidad de los Andes, Suescún de Roa also holds an LL.M. from Georgetown University. In the academic field, he has lectured on Obligations, Civil Liability and Business Law at the Universidad de los Andes and taught Arbitration and Companies in courses at the Bogotá Chamber of Commerce, the Universidad Nacional de Colombia and the Colombian Superintendency of Companies.

He is also the author of the book Tratado de Derecho de Daños en los Contratos published in 2025, and Deberes y Responsabilidad Civil de los Administradores de Sociedades in 2021, both published by Tirant lo Blanch, as well as numerous academic articles published in national and international specialist journals. He is a frequent speaker at seminars and conferences in Colombia and Latin America, and has been admitted as a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (FCIArb) in London, the institution’s highest accreditation, and was a foreign associate in the international arbitration group at the Washington D.C. office of a well-known international law firm.

“The arrival of Felipe as a partner significantly strengthens our Litigation and Dispute Resolution practice in Colombia. His experience in complex arbitrations and his track record in high-impact cases align with Pérez-Llorca’s vision of providing sophisticated advice on the most significant matters for our clients,” said Mauricio Piñeros, Country Chair Colombia at Pérez-Llorca.

This move comes just days after Pérez-Llorca announced the appointment of 12 new partners and five counsels globally, including Colombian lawyers Paola Valderrama and María Camila Parra, confirming once again the firm’s growth and expansion in Colombia.

Ramírez de Haro will return to Madrid, where he will continue to work closely with the London office through his work with major international funds and firms.

Likewise, Ander Valverde, a partner based in London since 2022, who has combined his responsibility for the Finance team in Spain with the development of the firm’s debt practice in London, will return to Spain in April 2026, where he will continue to coordinate the Finance practice in Madrid and remain linked to the London office through the firm’s clients in this key financial centre for this practice.

José Luis Romeu joined Pérez-Llorca in 2017 as a lawyer in the Corporate practice and made partner in January 2024. Specialising in commercial law, his career has a strong international flavour as, in addition to an LL.M. in International Business and Economic Law from Georgetown University, he worked in the firm’s London office in 2019 and 2020 and is also a Solicitor of England and Wales.
