Mercedes Romero, Partner at Pérez-Llorca, winner of a ‘40 under Forty’ Award from Iberian Lawyer

Twelve partners at Pérez-Llorca have received this accolade since the inception of the awards

Mercedes Romero, a partner in Pérez-Llorca’s Litigation and Arbitration practice, has had her professional career recognised in the latest edition of Iberian Lawyer’s “40 under Forty” awards that were presented in Madrid yesterday.

This award recognises Mercedes Romero as the best lawyer in the Iberian Peninsula under the age of 40 in the area of Arbitration. This recognition is a result of her work in the last year on major disputes and arbitrations both in Spain and abroad.

Mercedes Romero joined Pérez-Llorca in 2006 and made partner in 2017. She holds a degree in Law from Universidad Carlos III de Madrid and a master’s degree in International Commercial Arbitration from University College London (Queen Mary University).

Romero is an expert in complex judicial and arbitral proceedings on a national and international level, regarding disputes arising from contractual obligations in purchase agreements, distribution agreements, financial transactions, financial leases, joint ventures, turnkey projects, partner contracts and breaches of contract in general. She has also acted in enforcement proceedings in relation to foreign judgments and awards, as well as in other matters related to private international law.

She is already recognised in the practice of “Arbitration and Mediation” in the legal directory Best Lawyers®, and combines her work as a lawyer with academic life, having been an associate lecturer at the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid.

Romero joins the following lawyers from Pérez-Llorca who have won in previous editions: in 2007, Pedro Pérez-Llorca, the firm’s Senior Partner, who also won ‘Best Lawyer at a Law Firm’; in 2009, Javier Carvajal, a partner in the Corporate practice; in 2011, Adriana de Buerba, a partner in the White Collar Crime practice; in 2013, Guillermina Ester and Félix J. Montero, partners in the Litigation and Arbitration practice, as well as Carmen Reyna and Alejandro Osma, partners in the corporate practice, with Alejandro Osma also receiving one of three special awards from the jury, the ‘Outstanding Achievement Award’; in 2015, Iván Delgado, Pablo González Mosqueira and Julio Lujambio, also partners in the Corporate practice, and in the latest edition held in 2017, Elena Veleiro, a partner in the Public Law practice.
