Budget, the first challenge for the new antitrust authority

Martínez cautioned that although the incoming authority will have expanded mandate and shorter investigation timelines (cut from 600 to 450 days for mergers), it begins with a constrained budget, which could restrict its operational capacity and the thoroughness of its reviews. He notes that companies should monitor not only the legal framework, but also the resources available to the regulator in order to anticipate review risks and avoid regulatory surprises.
