Mauricio is the Country Chair of Pérez-Llorca Colombia and also leads the Tax Practice Group. Since beginning his professional career in 1987, he has served as general counsel to various national and multinational companies in mergers and acquisitions, banking and finance, and tax matters, as well as advising individuals and family groups on estate planning and taxation.
He has advised companies across diverse economic sectors on corporate tax issues, litigation, tax structuring related to mergers and acquisitions, private equity investments, financial transactions and project financing, foreign investment in Colombia, and Colombian investments abroad. He has also provided advice on the design, structuring and implementation of alternative risk transfer mechanisms, with special emphasis on insurance captives.

Experience
Mauricio Piñeros has developed an outstanding career in tax, corporate and constitutional law, starting his practice in prestigious legal firms before joining Pérez-LLorca, where he has advised important players in the business sector.
Throughout his career, Piñeros has led or participated in some of the most relevant corporate and financial operations in the country. Among its representative matters are the corporate reorganization of Ecopetrol, the merger between SABMiller and Bavaria, the acquisition of Libertad and the Pão de Açúcar Group by Almacenes Éxito, the implementation of some restructurings of companies of the Colpatria Trading Group, and tax planning for energy sector projects and large infrastructure concessions.
In recent years, he has led the tax consultancy in two of the largest financial transactions recorded in Colombia: a transaction of public debt by the Colombian government for approximately USD 10 billion, advising a group of the world’s most important international banks, and financing and market entry for Grupo Nutresa bonds for USD 2 billion, one of the largest exercises of its kind carried out by a private Colombian company.
Also participated as a leading partner in cross-border tax advice to Promigas in the acquisition of Zelestra’s renewable energy portfolio in Colombia, Peru and Chile. From 2018 to March 2024, he served as a co-judge of the Constitutional Court of Colombia, contributing to decisions of high legal and social impact.
