The Latin American mergers and acquisitions market showed greater caution during the first half of 2026, with a 30% drop in the number of deals, although with a rebound in transaction value in some of the region's key markets. The analysis features contributions from Rodrigo Rojas, Partner at Pérez-Llorca Mexico; Lina Uribe, Partner at Pérez-Llorca Colombia; and Roberto Mac Lean, Partner at Pérez-Llorca Peru.

The article analyses the evolution of the M&A market in Latin America during the first half of 2026, marked by greater investor selectivity, the return of large-scale deals and increasing regulatory and contractual complexity.

Rodrigo Rojas explains that, although the number of transactions has decreased, deals are becoming larger and more sophisticated, particularly in Mexico, where transaction value rose 21% compared with the same period in 2025. Lina Uribe addresses the impact of political and regulatory uncertainty in Colombia and the wider region, while Roberto Mac Lean analyses the evolution of the Peruvian market, characterised by lower private equity fund activity and greater use of reps & warranties insurance.
