IMSS: New Social Security Framework for Digital Platforms

01/01/1970

The IMSS takes a step toward formalizing digital platform workers through a pilot program set to launch on July 1, 2025.

The IMSS Technical Council has approved the general rules for a pilot program aimed at incorporating digital platform workers into the Mandatory Social Security Regime. The program outlines several obligations for digital platforms, including employer registration, affiliation of workers based on minimum wage, contribution payments, and reporting of occupational risks. Although compliance is optional, the IMSS has 180 days to issue implementing regulations. Pérez-Llorca México’s Social Security team analyzes the agreement and its implications for tech companies, platforms, and workers.
