José María Miralles advises telecommunications service providers, digital infrastructure operators, listed companies and investment funds on highly complex corporate and regulatory transactions in Spain and the rest of Europe.

With over 25 years’ experience in the sector, José María provides a unique perspective that combines the insight of an external advisor with the experience gained as Global General Counsel and a member of the Executive Committee of an IBEX 35-listed company and European leader in telecommunications infrastructure. This dual perspective enables him to anticipate clients’ issues and provide advice that takes into account legal, regulatory, competition and business considerations.

Experience

José María Miralles has over 25 years’ experience in the telecommunications services and digital infrastructure sectors, having held positions of increasing responsibility at some of Spain’s leading companies in the sector.

Before joining Pérez-Llorca, he was Global General Counsel at Cellnex Telecom, a company listed on the IBEX 35, where he helped to establish and develop the European leader in telecommunications infrastructure, with operations in Spain, Italy, France, Portugal, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Poland, Sweden, Denmark, Austria and Ireland.

As a member of Cellnex’s Executive Committee, he led the legal, regulatory and competition, data protection and intellectual property matters departments, as well as compliance, and was also Chairman of the Ethics and Compliance Committee.

He has been a director and board member of various companies in the telecommunications and infrastructures sector, both nationally and internationally.

He was also part of the legal teams at Abertis Telecom, Retevisión and Auna Operadores de Telecomunicaciones.

His advice covers M&A transactions, both public and private, in the telecommunications services and digital infrastructure sectors (towers, fibre optics, data centres, DAS and small cells), transport and broadcasting of audiovisual signals, the structuring of joint ventures and network-sharing agreements, corporate governance of listed and unlisted companies, and regulatory and competition advice before sectoral regulatory bodies, at both national and European level.
