Electricity Regulation to Be Broken Down into Activity-Specific Rules

The publication of the Regulation of Mexico’s Electricity Sector Law marks the beginning of a new regulatory cycle, as the General Administrative Provisions (DACG) will detail operational rules by activity, says our Partner Jerónimo Ramos.

Ramos notes that, while the Regulation clarifies issues such as energy storage and private participation schemes, the DACG will be key to defining its practical implementation. In his view, it will be essential to balance innovation incentives with a structured regulatory policy that does not discourage investment. He also emphasizes that the industry must remain alert to ensure that the new rules do not become barriers to growth.
