Pérez-Llorca constituye un equipo Iberia-Latam en México ante el aumento del trabajo intercontinental 1

Press release

Pérez-Llorca sets up an Iberia-Latam team in Mexico to respond to growing intercontinental workload

06/10/2026

The firm is launching this team to address the growing volume of transactions and mandates it handles across Iberia, Mexico and other Latin American markets

  • Alfredo Lafita, in his role as Senior Vice President Iberia-Latam, and Gonzalo Sánchez-Quiñones will be relocating from Madrid to Mexico City with a view to the long term
  • The team will support the strong growth of the firm’s Mexico practice, led by Country Chair Jorge Mondragón, and the link between Iberia and Latin America, which has become vital to the firm following the internationalisation process led by Iván Delgado from New York
  • The initiative forms part of Project Scala and enhances partners and lawyers’ ability to move between the various offices of the firm’s Ibero-American platform

Pérez-Llorca is continuing to develop its Ibero-American legal platform by establishing an Iberia-Latam team based in Mexico. This team has been set up to strengthen the firm’s capabilities given the growing volume of transactions and mandates it is handling in both regions.

It will also enable us to consolidate our advisory services on matters originating in Iberia and Europe and relating to Mexico and Latin America and, conversely, to support Mexican corporate clients and family offices who already rely on Pérez-Llorca for their transactions in Iberia and other European markets from Mexico.

To lead the Iberia-Latam team, Alfredo Lafita, a partner in the Corporate/M&A practice, will relocate from Madrid to Mexico City as Senior Vice President Iberia-Latam. Lafita has extensive experience in M&A, private equity, the stock market, joint ventures and corporate restructuring, and has advised multinational companies on some of their most significant corporate transactions. Along with Lafita, Gonzalo Sánchez-Quiñones, who was recently appointed partner in the Corporate/M&A practice and has over 11 years’ experience at the Madrid office, will also be moving to Mexico City.

In addition to these two partners, a further six Spanish lawyers specialising in areas such as Insurance, Corporate/M&A, Real Estate and International Litigation and Arbitration will also form part of the Iberia-Latam team to support the development and coordination of transactions and matters requiring multi-jurisdictional advice, joining the more than 200 people the firm employs across Mexico City and Monterrey.

This initiative forms part of Project Scala, through which Pérez-Llorca aims to capitalise on the opportunities arising from its internationalisation process, consolidate a fully integrated Ibero-American legal platform, strengthen coordination in advising clients operating across multiple jurisdictions, and promote the mobility of partners and lawyers, as well as the development of international careers within the firm.

The initiative is a response to the growing level of business integration between Mexico and Europe, which was further strengthened in May 2026 with the signing of the Modernised Global Agreement between the European Union and Mexico and the Interim Trade Agreement, which establish a new framework for deepening trade and investment relations. Spain plays a particularly significant role in these investment flows: according to the latest figures from Mexico’s Ministry of Economy, it was the second-largest source of foreign direct investment in Mexico during the first half of 2026, behind only the United States, with $4.954 billion, accounting for 14.2% of the total received. Conversely, ICEX ranks Mexico as the sixth-largest investor in Spain and the third-largest from outside the European Union, behind only the United States and the United Kingdom.

“Business relations between Mexico and Europe are at a particularly significant juncture. European companies have a very well-established presence in Mexico and, at the same time, we are seeing growing interest from Mexican groups in Spain and other European markets. Pérez-Llorca’s Iberia-Latam team strengthens the firm’s capabilities on both sides of the Atlantic, responds to the growing volume of work between the two regions, and connects our teams and our expertise even more directly so that we can support clients right where they make and implement their investment decisions,” said Alfredo Lafita.

Pedro Pérez-Llorca, the firm’s Senior Partner, will return to Madrid at the end of 2026 as scheduled, after spending a year carrying out his duties from Mexico City. He will remain closely involved with the Mexican legal practice from Madrid, while spending periods of time in Mexico. “As well as being a very positive life experience,” Pérez-Llorca said, “my year in Mexico has given me first-hand insight into the vast opportunities offered by the Mexican market, the challenges and plans of our clients, and the enormous potential of our local talent. I’m very proud of our team in Mexico and of everything they’re achieving.”

Apart from Lafita’s appointment as Senior Vice President Iberia-Latam, the firm’s governance structure remains unchanged and continues to be led by the International Partnership Board, with Pedro Pérez-Llorca as Senior Partner, Julio Lujambio as Executive Partner and Iván Delgado as International Executive Partner, alongside the Country Chairs: Jorge Mondragón in Mexico, Mauricio Piñeros in Colombia and Luis Miranda in Peru.
