Laura Ruiz joined Pérez-Llorca in 2007. In 2013 Laura went on secondment to the Stockholm headquarters of the law firm Mannheimer Swartling Advokatbyra.

Studies:

Experience

Insolvency
Laura advises companies in pre-insolvency and insolvency situations. Her clients are mainly companies from the energy, infrastructure and real estate sectors, some which have subsidiaries all around the world.

Laura also defends creditors’ interests in insolvency proceedings of large companies in the construction and food sectors, shipyards, and hotels, among others. She has extensive experience in insolvency related to litigation such as: insolvency directors’ liability, corporate litigation of insolvent companies, and litigation connected with the EC Regulation 1346/2000.

She has also been involved in negotiations aimed to restructure the debt of listed Spanish companies and works very closely with the Finance lawyers within the framework of refinancing agreements.

Laura also regularly works with the Corporate team on the analysis of the insolvency issues of transactions concerning distressed debt.

Litigation and arbitration
Laura advises national and international clients in court proceedings and arbitrations regarding civil and commercial matters. She has participated in cases dealing with, among others, construction, derivatives, syndicated credit facilities, reps and warranties, agency and distribution agreements, franchise agreements, corporate directors’ liability, and civil liability.

She is often involved in complex transnational litigations and arbitrations applying international principles and European regulations as well as coordinating with lawyers from other jurisdictions.

Academic and Publishing Collaborations

Laura has lectured for The Madrid Bar Association and the Master’s degree for Access to the Legal Profession at Universidad Carlos III (Insolvency Law) and at Instituto de Empresa (Civil Procedure Law). In addition, Laura has coached Universidad Carlos III’s team for the international commercial competition Moot Madrid and participates as an arbitrator in Moot Madrid.

She also regularly contributes articles to the economic press and specialist magazines. These include:
