TTR Dealmaker Q&A with Carmen Reyna and Iciar de Lorenzo, Corporate/M&A Partners at Pérez-Llorca

01/01/1970

Carmen Reyna and Iciar de Lorenzo, partners in the Corporate/M&A practice at Pérez-Llorca, examine in this interview the current state of the Spanish mergers and acquisitions market

TTR Data: How would you describe recent developments in the M&A market in Spain?

The Spanish mergers and acquisitions market has established itself as one of the most dynamic in continental Europe, although it continues to follow a trend that first emerged in 2025: higher aggregate value and a lower number of transactions — a market with fewer deals, but of greater strategic significance and greater complexity in execution.

A key theme is selectivity: strategic assets and sectors with structural demand are the focus of competition and investor interest, while the rest of the market faces slower processes and more demanding negotiations.

Regulatory compliance is no longer merely a formality but has become a central element of any transaction. Nowadays, the success of a deal does not depend solely on the price; it depends on how it is structured and the extent to which regulatory constraints are anticipated.
